Reproductive Systems, Puberty and Pregnancy

April 11th, 2012 No comments

Dear Grade 8 Parents,

Did you know that a fetus can hear sounds outside the mother’s body? Did you know that a fetus dreams while inside the mother’s womb? These are just a few of the fascinating facts about pregnancy and birth that your child will be studying within the next few weeks as part of a chapter on the stages of life.

The purpose of this Health Education class is to provide students with knowledge and resources they need to understand the stages of life, from development of the fetus inside a women’s womb, through birth, childhood and adulthood. In addition, knowledge of how a woman’s body changes during pregnancy can affect not only the mother’s health but also the health of the fetus.

We will also cover teen pregnancy and the problems related to this as well as the importance of assuming responsibility for personal health and behaviors.  This knowledge will empower and strengthen him or her to make wise decisions in his or her relationships.

Your active support of your child’s progress in Health Education is critical, in this and all subject areas. You can support your child’s study of the stages of life by discussing the various topics and activities he or she is involved in.
